Bright colors elicit a positive psychological reaction and can be quite good for changing your mood when it comes to the gym. There have been studies that show that individuals who wear bright colors display higher levels of self-esteem and more confidence.
If you feel that wearing bright colors to the gym can easily draw attention to you, don’t. Most people are more involved in themselves while working out that they won’t really notice you. Unless you’re doing something weird to cause attention to be drawn towards you.
You can also slowly incorporate color into your workout closet by wearing some more color on a regular day to day basis. After those colors have been worn a couple of times, you might become more comfortable with colors at the gym. Alternatively, you could always wear a bright top and then a black pair of shorts, or even the reverse.
