For many athletes, being fast is a priority. To the point where swimmers shave down their legs and entire body so that single hair doesn’t add an extra second to their time. But not many people are comfortable with having all of their hair completely removed, which is A-OKAY because recent studies have actually shown that although being bald was the formally accepted idea that it would be the most aerodynamic, another style has proved that it’s better – the mullet.
Yep, you heard us right. The mullet is much more aerodynamic than a bald head – and significantly more too! After being tested by circling around a 40K timed track, a mullet head clocked in at 10 seconds less than a bald head. And when it comes to sports, every second counts. Heck, every single millisecond counts as well. If you’ve ever watched the Olympics, then you know that that minute time difference is enough to knock someone down from first place.
Apparently the mullet improves the airflow to remain in laminar for significantly longer – the same way that the tails on aero helmets work! And funny enough, the research on mullets actually plays a pretty big role in the development of the Wingspan aero helmet.
So at the end of the day, if you’re looking to improve your speed, then maybe growing out a mullet may be the best thing that you can do for yourself. And if mullets aren’t exactly your thing or you just can’t seem to grow out that much hair, then time to get comfortable with being in second place with your mullet.
